Shoelace- Daily Object Writing – Nov 2nd
Nov 2nd, 2009 | By admin | Category: Daily WritingSnaking roughly through metal eyelets the crimped bullet casing end is captured between forefinger and thumb. Thank god is all I can say because with my feet outside of that pair of claustrophobic cells it’s been odour all the way to China. Of course now with odour eating insoles it’s going to be better, amazing how much difference they can make and how they cushion your feet adding a level of comfort not thought about before.
But this morning as I’m threading the strands of the lace through the metal eyes of my boot the casing broke. The innards of the shoelace are just a strangled thread in a lighter shade of brown so I begin a caterpillar exercise inside the eyes, moving the lace down by an inch and a half so I can get to the part still sheathed. On the lowest eyelet it gets caught and I unpick the lace like I am unpainting a painting or reversing down a dead end alley. These boots have always had that flaw, the clasps are to jagged or something and a pair of laces only lasts two to three months. Usually breaking at inopportune moments. I’m left pulling up a jumper of cloth that normally surrounds the core. While patrolling the aisles at the supermarket I’ll look out for some more, just next to the sweetly perfumed shelves of soaps and deodorants in the ‘ foot care’ section, where I got the odour eating insoles last week – previously I thought I had bought them and realised I had only bought ‘comfort’ insoles – no defence to the shocking feet these boots can produce….
