Inclination- Daily Object Writing – Nov 1st

I leaned out further and further pulling in the rope tighter and tighter and then one hull was completely out of the water. A cool grey morning, eight a.m. and nobody to be seen, just me and nine miles of empty lake to traverse. The wind was strong enough to make that sail bulge, and for me to gather enough speed to forget my fear of water. When the hull lifted out of the water dripping a trail of spray I put my trust in the thin metal stay attached to the mast and leaned out, the further out I leaned the harder I pulled on the main sheet the greater the angle of the boat. I was doing a wheelie across the water. I can still hear the clunking of the remaining hull as it cut through the water- the sails flapping and folding in the wind, how my feet were cold and numb and pins and needles were shooting darts at them, but the moment of riding across the surface was priceless. On the return leg it was even faster and the briny spray from the edge of the hull was peppering my face and making my hands start to shake. I’d been out so long they’d turned into pasty pink wrinkles that somehow were managing to keep hold of the mainsail sheet…..
