It seemed all possible avenues had been exhausted and they were both sneezing at whatever dusty compromises were being offered by the other. Both had been pushed to their limits, picking up the heavyweight history they had grown, tossing it on the trailer now carrying bail after bail of disillusionment and cynicism, but now things were at breaking point, just one more fine hollow brittle point and it would be the last straw.
She didn’t know it , how close he was, but her continuous murmur of silly accusations had been building up in him like a seismic event and one more straw would be the fuse that would make him erupt and unleash a Tsunami of anger that she wouldn’t recover from. For way too long he’d been picking up those bails of her anxiety as if they were well formed bricks , hauling them around as if he were an obedient camel, but now he’d had enough. Would not take one single jot more – nor a tittle either and then she said one phrase too many. Wounded one too many times, his feet splayed out from under him, the wheels fell off the cart, the balloon lost all its air and he collapsed …….
