Mouth Organ – Daily Object Writing -Oct 2nd

Lips settle either side of a row of holes, leaches knitting with cold shining silver over a stamped and engraved name – ‘Honer Marine Brand’. A mouthful of air taken in through stale openings, stale with my own breath thankfully. Cheeks puff like balloons and I blow, moving the harmonica left and right, adjusting the suck and blow in zig zag shapes, like a crazy fly avoiding the swat. A sandwhich of notes is thrown out the front, small shards of piercing mid range sound that slice through the air and cut the ears of the willing and unwilling in a battle for aural supremacy. Engaging the attention with as much interest as a train tooting before a railway crossing – is anyone listening?

Attending some Adult Education Center course on Tuesdays I would pass the Blues harmonica class- maybe twenty of them all doing the basic blow and suck- never got to hear them play anything, I always seemed to get lost in that place, in gloomy corridors that opened ……..
