Poodle – Daily Object Writing August 2nd
Aug 1st, 2009 | By admin | Category: Daily WritingClusters of dog owners huddle against the mid winter chill at Fawkner Park gathering together to share dog stories. All sorts of breeds converge; Ridgebacks, Pekinese, West Highland Whites, Dalmations, Fluffy Chinese Shiatsus and Poodles. Funny things Poodles. There’s the mega size ones with long spindly legs and the pocket sized models. I believe the big ones are meant to be quite intelligent but as they bound after a ball with the grace of a beached camel I wonder!
I can’t help but think of a miss world pageant as I see them see sawing across the turf. Sort of like a galloping horse except not as graceful. Any moment Sandra bullock might emerge from beneath the coiffured tufts and announce ‘world peace’. It really is a work of art the way those dog clippers work with poodles. Leaving fluffy licorice clouds of fur that balloon out. I have compassion for the groomers who have to control these unweildy camels and produce perfect hedgerow outlines in bushes of soft fur and #1’s down to bare skin.
Just like other dogs these ones yip and yap and get exited by the possibility of a thrown ball or stick. The eyes keenly trained on the arm about to throw the ball. The standard Jack Russell and Kelpie-cross form a tornado rushing toward the ball, but the lolloping poodle gets there last. Do they get frustrated? These furry children of the Fawkner Park group keep them sensible on a Sunday , give them something to live for.
