Junket- daily Writing- July 13

All expenses paid, no worries , take it easy. Sponsorship by Sheraton, airfares courtesy of Qantas. Ah those were the days, no longer though. A hotel room, medium size. A plastic card to slot in the door. A dinner paid for with a voucher. Junket junket junket – it smells of elements of corruption, but also smells sweet as Baclava. It throws up cloudy imaginings of suitcases of money and feeling as if you’re playing hookey from school, wondering when the head teacher might appear.

Is this really happening? Being here at this conference/seminar/training camp and getting paid to be here! All other responsibilities left in a grave somewhere back at the airport from where you left. The only responsibility are the calls to home to see how the family’s doing, feeding yourself and ‘networking’, much as it disgruntles you, it must be done. Life is people and relationships and the more you know the further you can go and get things done more efficiently. Your as efficient as a hedge trimmer, buzzing away on suburban weekends. You let your mind wander mid speech and smell that fresh cut grass and disturbed earth. It seems to fill your mind before you drift back to more mundane diagrams and explanations that seem to crush you with the weight of an Egyptian pyramid. But at least it’s all free, you’re free. After the seminar you’re free to walk the streets with test transmission blank thoughts if you want.
