Paul J Penton – Songwriter

“Release the Muse”

Album update- July8th

Well I haven’t done one of these for a time so thought I’d fill in some gaps. I got four new songs underway over the last week 3 co-writes and one all of my own making. I’ve been listening to the latest Christine Kane album and she has a song called ‘Virginia’ [ a co write with Steve Seskin] .. it sparked off an idea for a character called ‘Oliver’ a geeky school kid who meets a geeky girl and they get together… cute. I’m also developing an idea for a song on bullying….

Been rehearsing for the performance at Open Studio tonight.. it weil be a lively and intersting gig in what could easily be mistaken for someone’s front room!

I think I might have worked out the best way to approach all this writing/recoding/etc [only took two months!] I call it my W.R.A.P. formula-:
W is for Write- best done between 7.30 am and 12.30- including Object Writing
R is for record by the time I’m past lunch my brain is gluggy but I’m fine for laying tracks and singing
A is for Aquisition- this might mean going for a walk down the street or a drive to a nearby suburb or seeing a film – having a coffee with someone and tossing ideas about, anything that gets ‘new material’ in your brain and senses!
P is for Production. after dinner time this is the time to polish those traks recorded during the afternoon or revisit work on other mixes in progress – usually all wrapping up by ten PM!

This week I’ve worked on structire and lyric for ‘Low maintenance’ [not ready for rough posting yet], ‘a hundred times a day’. Re-discovered a lost song called ‘mostly for you’, re-lyriced ‘More than sometimes’, ‘Another perfect morning’, ‘buried and dead’ and ‘bio bomb’. Just 25 days ’til I’m back to the ‘real’ workface!
