Sequel- Daily Writing -May 16th
May 15th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Daily WritingSometimes they just shouldn’t bother you know! Sequels that is, they just never measure up to the ‘blockbusterness’ of the original – though I did read that the latest ‘Angels and Demons’ – the sequel to the Da Vinci code – is pretty good go figure.
There’s that whole procedure you go through at the movies isn’t there – If you haven’t cleverly booked online and paid an extra buck you get to stand in the queue with those sash ribbon boulevard devices – you’re herded toward your lemming like leap at the ticket counter where the well mannered smart suited service representatives assign you a random seat unless you ask them for something specific. You walk away dazed by the fifteen dollar sting and begin ascending a set of steps to movie heaven. On the way up you notice there are embedded light emitting diodes that swivel through a rainbow of colours very subtly and slowly but they do change.
The entrance foyer is like Normandy beach on D-Day June 6 1944. You’re as vulnerable as an American G.I. fresh out of the landing barge as rifle shot after rifle shot of tantalising offers ricochet past – There’s the Giant Coke/ Popcorn/ Games pass. The Dual Choc Top lovers deal – so many things, fantales, toffees, all sorts of lollies… but you pull tight your body armour and surge forth with the ticket of salvation which is disinterestedly shredded by an even younger customer service officer. Finally your inside the sanctuary of the bat cave of the cinema – You’re then faced with the impossible task of identifying your numbered seat – I really think they need to be luminous but maybe it costs too much. You get settled in the plush fabric and before you start on your choc top you are fed a diet of ads and forthcoming attractions – some awaiting classification.. you’re all settled in ready for the sequel…
